Michael Schumacher's wife Corinna sobbed while her husband was honoured with a community award on July 20.
Michael Schumacher is a famous F1 driver.
The 53-year-old has maintained a low profile since since his skiing tragedy in 2013.
Corinna, his lifelong spouse, and Gina, their daughter, were present for the celebration in
Cologne honouring her husband's achievements outside of sports.
Corinna has come under fire from many of Schumacher's friends for being overly protective of her husband,
and she was visibly distraught during the performance.
Along with family and friends, she was present to accept the North Rhine-Westphalia State Prize,
which honours Schumacher's generosity and commitment to his own Germany.
Premier of North Rhine-Westphalia Hendrik Wust presented Mrs. Schumacher with the medal as she was
in tears for sheltering and caring for the former driver throughout his recovery.
A compassionate person who has always valued taking into account others,' the prime minister continued.
