Elise Mertens and Zhang Shuai were defeated by Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova, the No. 2 seeds, in straight sets to capture their second Wimbledon title.
In the Wimbledon women's doubles final, the No. 2 rank Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova defeated the No. 1 rankers.
In their second appearance at a championship, the Czechs won their second Wimbledon title by defeating top seeds Elise Mertens and Zhang Shuai on Centre Court.
The title marks the team's second of the year and sixth overall in Grand Slam doubles.
They also won the Australian Open championship after defeating Anna Danilina and Beatriz Haddad Maia in the final.
They had previously won the All-England Club title in 2018.
#1 in the world in WTA Doubles Mertens was seeking to defend the Wimbledon title she won a year ago, alongside Hsieh Su-wei and first-time Wimbledon finalist Zhang,
who was vying for her third Grand Slam doubles trophy. Three years after their first meeting, the pair reconnected on grass courts and won all of their matches.
They won eight matches overall, but they gave Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jelena Ostapenko a walkover in the Rothesay Classic Birmingham final.
Despite being swept by Krejcikova and Siniakova in the quarterfinals by the No. 10 seeds Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Ellen Perez,
they overcame it to win, 1-6, 7-6(2), 6-2, and go on to win the match and the title with just one set dropped.
A complete performance in 66 minutes against Mertens and Zhang continued the pattern from the previous two days.
They encountered some trouble when they lost serve for the first game in the match at 3-3 in the second set and fell behind by a break.
They quickly bounced back, though, and won three straight games.
In the Wimbledon women's doubles final in 2015, No. 1 ranked Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza upset No. 2 ranked Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina for first time in seven years.
In the women's doubles competition at Wimbledon, Krejcikova and Siniakova have a 17-3 overall record since winning the junior championship at the All-England Club in 2013.
Additionally, they have twice won Roland Garros in the preceding five years.
They will now concentrate on the US Open, their lone remaining major title, during the 2022 Grand Slam season.
