A 27-year-old hiker who went missing while visiting White Sands National Park has been found dead, according to authorities.
According to reports from the New Mexico state police and park officials in southern New Mexico, a search for Brad Utegaar of Wausau, Wisconsin,
was launched during the holiday weekend, and his body was discovered earlier this week.
A military helicopter and representatives from the state and the federal government helped with the attempt.
Utegaar had left his car at the Alkali Flats Trail for two days. His body was found over two kilometres northeast of the route.
Utegaar had a bag and water bottles with him, and there didn't appear to be any foul play, according to State Police Officer Ray Wilson.
Utegaard's relatives alerted authorities in New Mexico of his lonesome cross-country journey.
Authorities once more issued a warning on Friday due to the lack of water or shade along any of the park's walkways.
Over the years, a number of people have perished while hiking among the white sand dunes.
Exact one year earlier, a hiker from northern New Mexico was found dead in the park.
In addition to high-energy food, officials encouraged hikers to bring a helmet, sunscreen, and at least 1 gallon of water per person per day.
