The college football community has been stunned by the loss of FIU linebacker Luke Knox, who died suddenly at the age of 22.
Knox began his collegiate football career at Ole Miss.
He earned a total of 10 tackles as a rookie, along with two pass breakups and one recovered fumble.
Knox first played tight end for two seasons before switching back to linebacker for the 2021 football season.
Knox transferred from Ole Miss to Florida International in the 2022 off-season.
Mike MacIntyre, the head coach of FIU, paid tribute to Knox in a statement.
Words cannot express our tremendous grief over the passing of Luke Knox, our friend and comrade. MacIntyre threw in.
"It was an honour for me to coach Luke at FIU and Ole Miss.
Even though I greatly admired his excitement for football, I will never forget his genuine love for his family and teammates.
He had a special ability to make everyone around him feel comfortable and in charge."
Knox's younger brother, Dawson Knox, was a tight end for the Buffalo Bills.
The Bills' head coach, Sean McDermott, paid tribute to the Knox family by saying,
"During this trying time, our thoughts are with Dawson and his family.
We are right there with him when it comes to helping him and his family. We support him and adore him."
