The current NHL champions, the Colorado Avalanche, are intrepid travellers with a flair for the dramatic.
The Avalanche defeated the two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6 to claim their third Stanley Cup overall and their first championship in twenty-one years.
The game's opening goal was scored by the Lightning, who also won the Stanley Cup in 2021, but Colorado scored twice.
The Avalanche's Cale Makar was awarded the most valuable player of the series.
In 2022, Colorado became the fourth team in NHL history to win all four of its away playoff series. With a 16-4 record,
it has the second-best postseason record in league history. With 10 comeback victories in the playoffs, Colorado also tied for the most in NHL history.
It took Colorado a number of years to win the title. The team finished the 2016–17 campaign with the worst record in the league.
It was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs in 2018 and the second round in the three years prior.
Colorado defender Erik Johnson, 34, said, "This is what I've always dreamed of, with my friends, my parents. That is the reason we are here.
You surround yourself with people who are encouraging. It truly takes a village, in addition to the members of the (team's) support staff.
The previous team to win three straight NHL championships was Tampa Bay, who followed the New York Islanders dynasty from the early 1980s.
Makar claims that they are a squad looking to start a dynasty. "We're a group looking to leave a lasting impression."
