The fastest download speeds are available for boats, yachts, and oil rigs with SpaceX's fast Starlink satellite Internet, which costs $5,000.
SpaceX's Starlink satellite Internet started a new pricey maritime service for commercial ships, oil rigs, or high-end yachts.
Only the monthly tag and equipment charges prevent recreational yacht owners from obtaining Starlink Maritime.
After the FCC approved the use of the Starlink satellite Internet service by Earth Stations in Motion (ESIMs), or, to put it another way,
on moving vehicles whether they are on land or at sea, SpaceX wasted no time in implementing it. The FCC authorised the usage of ESIM as long as
SpaceX is fine with potential interference from "present and future services," but up until this point, despite offering a Starlink RV option,
SpaceX hasn't been granted authorization to deliver satellite Internet in moving vehicles. This is true even if some of its clients employ it in this manner.
A Stralink Maritime option was created right away, but it came with eye-watering monthly costs of US$5,000 in addition to
a one-time US$10,000 equipment investment for two Starlink terminals. At this price, it goes without saying that Starlink Maritime is more suited to
serving "merchant vessels, oil rigs, and premium yachts" than your average lake cabin boat.
Up until now, Starlink Business (formerly Premium), which costs US$500 per month and US$2,500 for the required hardware,
has been the most expensive SpaceX satellite Internet service. For example, the regular Starlink, whose price just increased, only costs US$599 for a terminal once.
Fortunately, pay-as-you-go usage is possible thanks to Starlink Maritime, which "offers the ability to pause and un-pause service at any point, and is invoiced in one month increments."
Starlink Maritime is now promising the same 350 Mbps download speeds that Starlink Business had previously stated.
The description of the option now just reads, "Starlink Business delivers faster internet speeds and better throughput with more than
double the antenna capability of Starlink," despite the fact that SpaceX changed the advertised Starlink Business speeds with the debut of the Maritime service.
The current situation seems to be saving the cool Starlink Maritime option for the fastest guaranteed speeds.
