Carlos Santana was transported to the hospital after his concert in Michigan on Tuesday night due to heat exhaustion and dehydration.

According to the rock icon's agent, Michael Jensen, in a statement to USA TODAY, Santana was at his performance at the Pine Knob Music Theatre,

an outdoor amphitheatre about 40 miles outside of Detroit, when he was taken to the emergency room at McLaren Clarkston hospital.

Michael Vrionis, Santana's manager, reportedly said that the musician was retained for observation and is "doing well," according to Jensen's statement.

Santana's appearance at The Pavilion at Star Lake in Washington County, Pennsylvania on this coming Wednesday has been delayed.

The stage fall shocked the audience who had been seeing Santana and an earlier Earth, Wind, and Fire concert.

He sort of sat down next to the drums and slid back, and chaos broke out on stage.

Steve Oshinsky of West Bloomfield, a member of the USA TODAY Network, spoke with The Detroit Free Press.

Santana was "soaked," said Oshinsky, who was sitting in the 10th row at the centre of the stage. He was constantly drenched with water.

According to Oshinsky, the music instantly stopped, and medical personnel sprinted onto the stage.

They asked the crowd to leave, erected a privacy screen made of black, and turned on the lights in the house.

According to Jo-Ann Barnas, a former sports feature reporter for the Free Press, people started yelling, "We're praying for you, Carlos."

She was roughly 40 seats back from the right side of the stage. "It's alright, Carlos. We are here for you, Carlos."

She hadn't seen any indications that Santana, 74, or the act before him, Earth, Wind, and Fire, were having difficulties with the heat prior to the collapse.

She observed that the calibre of his music and degree of enthusiasm were comparable to a performance he performed there in 2019.

"Carlos was on fire," she remarked. He had just completed an excellent solo.

After having heart surgery in December, Santana was forced to cancel many of his scheduled Las Vegas appearances.

In May 2020, Santana announced on Facebook that his younger brother, guitarist Jorge Santana, had died at the age of 68. According to his family, he died naturally.
